India Finish 4th In Team's Event

The Women's Archery Team tasted success as a unit but individually they had an off day. Ankita Bhakat brought the best result for India. She finished 11th in the rankings. Former World No.1 Deepika Kumari looked out of sorts. She concluded with the 23rd position. The remaining Indian contender, Bhajan Kaur, ended at a disappointing 22nd spot.

Team India scored 1983 points which included 21 bullseyes and 83 10s. Mexico finished one better than India at 3rd. They amassed 1983 points. China got the number 2 spot with 1996 points and at the top, it is the ever-consistent Korea with 2046 points. Thus, Korea has once again presented their contention for the Gold medal at the Paris Olympics. India are well within touching distance of a podium finish and has to produce their A-game to advance past the Quarterfinal stage. India will take on either Netherlands or France in the last 8.

On the individual front, it was Ankita, who hit her season's best. She was the most consistent Archer from India. Lim Sihyeon of South Korea finished at the top of the tree in the singles category.

Considering India finished fourth at the team event, a podium finish could be expected but at the individual space, it could be a herculean task for the archers to make a place in the top-3. However, it would be too early to assert anything, let's look forward to the main rounds and hope that this time Team India ends its long wait and fetches an Olympic medal in Archery.
