The Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 promises to be a groundbreaking event, set to captivate audiences worldwide with its bold, original, and unique approach. Scheduled for July 26, 2024, this ceremony will make history as it moves away from the traditional stadium setting and into the heart of the city, along the iconic Seine River.

In an unprecedented move, the parade of athletes will take place on the Seine, with each national delegation represented on boats. This innovative setup will feature cameras on the boats, providing television and online viewers with an intimate view of the athletes. The parade will traverse a 6-kilometer route, winding from east to west through central Paris, showcasing the city's stunning landmarks and setting the stage for the athletes' performances over the next 16 days.

The journey will begin at the Austerlitz bridge, near the Jardin des Plantes, at 7:30 p.m. local time. The parade will then navigate around the Île Saint Louis and the Île de la Cité, passing under several of Paris' historic bridges and gateways. Along the way, athletes will have the opportunity to glimpse some of the official Olympic venues, including Parc Urbain La Concorde, the Esplanade des Invalides, the Grand Palais, and the Iéna bridge. The parade will culminate in front of the Trocadéro, where the remaining Olympic protocols and final performances will take place.

This innovative ceremony places athletes at its core, breaking with tradition by starting with the parade of athletes and featuring them prominently throughout the event. “Athletes will be the heart and soul of the ceremony. By opening with the parade of athletes, Paris 2024 is breaking with tradition. Athletes will be featured on stage during the introduction to and throughout the ceremony as part of Paris 2024’s constant aim to hold Games created for and by athletes,” a statement on Paris Olympics' website read.
