You don't MESS with Messi: Argentina minister sacked after MESSING with Lionel and World Champions
Some members of the Argentina national team, including Enzo Fernandez, were criticised for the racist chants they used. After winning the Copa America 2024, the Argentine players went on the team bus to party even more. Even so, things took an unexpected turn.
The players chanted racist slurs during Enzo Fernandez's live Instagram session. The chants were aimed at some French national team players with African roots. According to Metro, the lyrics in the song that Argentine fans first heard during the 2022 World Cup were as follows:
Argentina’s deputy sports minister SACKED after he urged Lionel Messi and his team to make a public apology for the RACIST chants
After a video clip went viral and the European football scene erupted, the French Football Federation started to contemplate legal action against the comments made by Argentinean players.
In a recent turn of events, Julio Garro, Argentina's Deputy Sports Minister, was sacked for pushing Lionel Messi and his associates to apologise to the French players in an interview with Urbana Play. Garro also advised Claudio Tapia, the Argentina Football Federation's president, to apologies as well. Julio Garro said:
It is crucial to note that it has been reported that Lionel Messi was not there during the celebrations and was not on the team bus when the unpleasant chants were spoken.
Mere hours following the interview, Javier Milei, the president of Argentina, declared the termination of Julio Garro. Milei elucidated the choice through a post on social media. According to the GOAL, he said:
Argentina beat Colombia in the Copa America 2024 final after Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal in extra-time. Argentina's football team has now won 4 consecutive finals, including 2 Copa America, World Cup, and Finalisima, under the leadership of Lionel Messi.
