Denied entry to Mussoorie, kanwariyas block Doon road in Uttarakhand
MUSSOORIE: A large group of kanwariyas blocked the Mussoorie-Dehradun road on Friday morning after being denied entry to the hill town. Around 50 kanwariyas staged a sit-in at Kolhukhet, obstructing traffic and demanding access past the toll barrier to continue their journey to Uttarkashi. The police stopped them, leading to the roadblock.
For over a decade, state govt has banned kanwariyas from entering Mussoorie due to previous incidents involving clashes with locals and shopkeepers.
Locals and tourists experienced delay before the blockade was cleared by the police. Mussoorie SHO Arvind Chaudhary said, “The group wanted to go to Uttarkashi, but when stopped, they blocked the traffic for some time. The police then spoke to them and persuaded them to return.”
